The : Lets invite A B but not C. We are going to drink way too much for C. “We don’t wanna stumble anyone” while we get sh*t faced. This happened on several occasions.

by Xanthippe ini am just watching my neighbours across the road putting up christmas lights while their children run around bursting with excitement.

Love it. This is the first year we are celebrating as a family. We got the tree after Thanksgiving. Decorated it and all. If it wasn’t for our 2 little ones, I doubt the misses and I would go through much effort. I also put up Christmas lights for the first time. I had an elder call and leave a voicemail asking me to call him back. I still haven’t. I think someone saw the lights and turned us in.lol.

When Organized Religion Becomes a Cult
by dazed but not confused ini saw this mentioned in a post.
i thought it deserved a thread of its own.
i liked how this article reasoned with the reader how a religion can cross over into cult territory very quickly.. "the harm stems from a system that shuns and ostracizes adherents that don't accept their exclusive claims to truth.

Me too Clarity, me too.
Yes yadda yadda, I know there are many JW’s = cult threads. I just liked this article.
Oubliette – I wont give up. I will just have to be more creative trying to get them to think.

There is a 6 min chilling video at the end of the article.
I want to share this article so badly with my mom and sister, but sadly, I think it will push them farther away from me.

"The harm stems from a system that shuns and ostracizes adherents that don't accept their exclusive claims to truth. That is where conventional religion becomes a potentially harmful cult. Forcing people to conform by using the subtle threat of social alienation is a form of coercion."
"Any religious community can become a cult. It's not about how faith is expressed in a community but more importantly how people are treated if they want to leave and disbelieve."

Question
by Fading Begins ini am sure that this has already been discussed, so maybe someone could direct me to the correct link.
i just haven't been able to access this site as often as i would like.
at the meeting tonight (i wasn't there but was told about it), the brothers were told to pack up a "survival kit" with enough provisions to last for six months - water, medications etc.

Yes, this same thing happened in my old hall about a year ago when my wife was still attending. It was printed and bound locally. I think the elders were instructed to make their own nonofficial manual based on suggestions from the WTBTS hive mind. She brought it home and I looked through it. I will ask her tomorrow if we still have it. I think I threw it out along with all their other trash I had piled up over the years. Now I wish I kept it.
Also I remember her telling me they asked all the Bros and Sis to update their personal info – phone numbers and email and home addresses – with their service group overseers. She said it was primarily for the “friends” to have a go bag incase of natural disaster. Also they did mention it would be good to be prepared for the big A, but I do remember her telling me it was primarily for natural disaster preparedness.

Your wife has gone from complaining that you don’t do “family worship night” often enough to smoking? Just 2 months ago you wrote… Wife is a born in and still very strong in her beliefs, or rather very controlled.
So what has changed?

24 hour field service marathon ??
by gingerbread infield service for up to twenty-four hours non-stop.... it's a bit of a fad in our area with pioneers - the twenty somethings especially.
we've heard from other family members and a jw friend that it's a thing in their part of the country as well.. it sounds like a group decides on a day and then piles into a van or suv to 'work' the territory - 12, 18 and even 24 hours.. anyone else hearing of this?.
ginger.
